Famous Vietnamese pork roll in Sydney

According to my Vietnamese classmates, the most authentic and delicious pork roll has to be the one in Marrickville

After work, my French colleague and I decided to head down for a taste test. She was excited as she haven't found anything that beats her baguette back home. Just a short walk down Illawara road, you will notice a small shop front.

Really small indeed.

It's called Banh Mi Thit Marrickville Pork Roll and it's opened 24/7. While prices used to be $4 for a pork roll, BBQ pork roll, meat ball roll and the likes, prices now have increased to $4.50.

Just a search on google will get you heaps of acclaimed accolades this place had garnered.

My colleague ordered the BBQ pork while I ordered the normal pork with chilli. She still felt the bread was short of French standard but she felt the insides were yum. I found the bread pretty standard too but the filings was insanely flavoursome, right down from the sauce to the fresh ingredients you can see in the picture.

Fireworks at darling harbor - Xmas mood

Had a million dollar view at my cuzzies place on Saturday, of the million dollar darling harbour fireworks view.

While many people and myself cram at the harbour for a better view, i much prefer the birds eye view from atop.

Red Rooster Sydney

So the Australian chicken fast food chain is giving KFC a run for it's money.

I tried for the first time Red Rooster at Wetherill park. Oddly enough, you can never find a Red rooster outlet in the city. Just when I thought it's time to move over Oporto and welcome a new mate. The taste of Red rooster is at best mediocre.

Ample parking lots

Cheeseburger set meal. Ok honestly - this burger ain't too bad. Downside
I found a strand of purple thread in my burger, they offered a refund and replacement of the burger at no charge. Ain't too bad for me, but look before u eat.

Bought two sets of the 1/4 chicken meal with chips. The taste is a little too bland for my liking. Price 2 boxes for $10.

Penrith seafood

Had a delectable lunch earlier this week at Penrith Seafood at Wetherill Park.

It has two sections, one for fresh seafood and the other for cooked seafood meals. I decided to try out their fish and chips after curiosity bought me over after few days of observation.

I noticed the long queues and many orders of fish and chips amongst other sumptuous menu orders.

Prices are extremely reasonable coming from a tight arse like myself. I'm a huge eater and these chips could prolly last me half a day. Nice chicken salt or normal ones if so you wish. Two chunks of nicely fried fish, sweet and cruchy batter that's irresistible with tattar sauce. yums

It's $9.40 individually and $10.50 for a set which includes the sauce and a drink. Totally value meal.

My friend tried the fish burger the next day and it was huge-ass delicious and chips serving was humongous. Unfortunately, I do not have a picture of it. They have daily specials as well and many other grilled and seafood choices like lobster, and almost whatever you name. I like the seafood and fish market at Pyrmont , but I like the prices here better :)

Busy staff through the dividers where we had to wait for our orders

Happy hour at Cyren

Nothing better than having a happy hour beer near the water.

Cyren at darling harbour which sells western styled food and alcohol is often packed to the brims on Friday and Saturday evenings.

It's nice going over at an off peak period with faster service and plentiful seats.

TGIF - have a good weekend guys & Xmas is coming hohoho

Bay vista - Great deserts in Sydney

This is my second trip to Bay Vista Brighton Le sands beach. On my first trip, I had waffles with ice cream, and on this round I had crepes with strawberry, white chocolate, vanilla ice cream and strawberry purée. It costs $15.50 and it has a huge serving!!

Thank god for deserts!!

Bay vista is well known for its crepes, ice cream, waffles, cakes and other sweet treat along this stretch for food area which includes Lebanese, Mediterranean and other western cuisines. It is a must go place for deserts after your main course. It gets really packed at nights and on weekends.

Let's take a wefie :p

Yummy.

Blackstar pastry - Newtown

One of the most celebrated cafés for Sydney-siders and visitors would be the Blackstar Cafe in Newtown.

The most famous output would be the watermelon cake. The shop is manned mostly by lesbian and gay people from the looks of it. You can identity a proud rainbow flag in the cafe, but that don't change anything about its awesomeness. The cafe is situated just a two minute walk away from the station at most.

The cafe is really tiny and there are only couple of sit in options inside and outside but do expect crammed sitting conditions on boxes and makeshift tables . I have heard both negative and positive feedback about its infamous watermelon cake, but to me it's a rather unique experience.

The cream on biscuits with a slice of watermelon stuffed in the middle, with strawberry and flower petals toppings refreshed us from the Summer heat. Absolutely light yet sweet. The chocolate option is flavorsome and creamy, so do try it as well. It's a little pricey for a small slice at $7.50 each, you are better off for a larger portion at $26.50 if shared by a few people. Go on weekdays as weekends can entail longer waiting time .

Day out to Manly beach

Sunday was supposedly one of the hottest days this year thus far, but surprisingly it was rather cooling ;)

The ferry ride to Manly was packed to the brim and we queued for 30 minutes to get a prime spot at the front of the ferry.

Manly wharf

Manly beach itself.Hotbods galore.

Salt and pepper calamari with chips, one of the must haves other than famous fish and chips along the manly stretch. $10 for takeaway and $17.90 for eat-in.

Sydney's city skyline as we return home on the returning ferry.

What a great weekend!
